Powered by your calls, messages and emails, we beat back RYAM’s attempt for an end run to Tallahassee to build its ethanol plant here in Fernandina despite our City’s Comprehensive Plan’s prohibition.
In the end, the Florida Legislature respected the will of the citizens of Fernandina Beach, expressed long ago in our Comprehensive Plan, to not allow new chemical manufacturing on our island home.
Much credit goes to key members in the House that supported us. Rep. Black, Rep. Overdorf, and Rep. Buchanan all deserve our appreciation and thanks. And, thanks to your donations, we had the benefit of Ballard Partners directing the aim of our slingshots. Ballard provided us with direction, access and personal representation with legislators to defeat all of the legislation meant to assist RYAM.
Congratulations to the entire No Ethanol Fernandina Team and to all citizens who heeded our call to voice your concern and be heard.
While we defeated RYAM’s well-funded effort in the 2025 Legislature, this was just one battle. The 2026 legislative season is nearly upon us and our Goliath is battered but not beaten. No doubt he is rested, regrouped, and ready for another run at us!
